Things you can do in the Components module

You can use the Components module to manage the content you need to develop, translate, and publish.

  • The Components module contains one tab called Components.
  • You open it by going to the top menu and clicking the Components icon.
  • The Components module is listed after the Workflows module and before the Taxonomy module.

The options in the Components module differ slightly from the options you can use to manage components in a Project.

The Components tab contains five main panels:

Folders. All components are stored in folders. Use the Folders pane to navigate to the location where a component is stored.

Tips and tricks

  • The Folders pane contains a few system folders that are always at the start of the folder list. They include: Deleted Items and External References. You cannot remove or move these folders.

For more details on working with folders, read:

Components. Displays a list of the files stored in the selected folder. Use the Components pane to select a component, see details about it from the icons, and manage it using the right-click or Options menu.

Tips and tricks

  • The list of components in the Components panel is often referred to as the Components browser.
  • By default, the Components browser lists 25 components per page. If you want to view more items, use the drop down list to choose the number of items per page.

  • Inspire remembers how you customized this setting. The next time you open the Components tab, Inspire uses your choice instead of the default. If you want Inspire to forget your customization and return to showing the default number of Items per page, you must re-select the default or clear your browser's cache.

Search. When the list of components is extensive, search for the component you need. You can use a basic search by keyword and select the scope of folders you want to search in, or open the Advanced Query panel to include more criteria in your search.

Selected Components. If you want to take the same action on more than one component, you can select them and use the Selected Components pane to update them all at once.

The options in the Selected Components pane are not always the same as in the Options menu for a single component. Some actions that you can take on a single component may not be applicable to an action taken on several components at once.

Content details. Preview the first few sections of a topic at a glance and scroll to see the rest of the topic without opening it. Use the Content details pane to see the component's Name, File Name, Type, Updated By and Updated Date information.

Tips and tricks

  • You can expand and collapse this panel. Go to the pane's title bar and use the expand arrow and collapse arrows.
  • You can copy details about a component from the Content details pane. The details are saved in the Windows clipboard, which is a storage area for items the have been cut or copied. You can then paste the component details from the clipboard to anywhere you want.
