Enhancements to content authoring

See a warning if component is already used in an assignment or workflow

When creating or updating an assignment or workflow, Inspire checks to see if the components you want to add are already in use in another:

  • Assignment
  • Project workflow
  • Review workflow

You see warnings if a component is already in use.

  • If you want, you can close the warnings and create the assignment or workflow anyway.

Open a component without an associated DocType or framework in XML Mode

In the Components browser, if you open a component and one of these conditions is true, the component can't be edited in Author Mode:

  • There are no active frameworks.
  • The associated framework doesn't contain the component's DocType.

Instead, Inspire opens the component in the XML editor.

  • The XML editor lets you edit XML code inline with the content in your document.
  • Normally you can switch between the XML editor and Author mode, which hides all XML code and tags.
  • However, for components without an associated framework or defined DocType, you can't switch to Author mode.
  • To edit the component in Author mode, an Administrator must configure the framework or add the component's DocType.

Insert a PDF as an image

After importing a PDF file into Inspire, you can reference it the same as you would an image.

  • It's a binary file so you can't edit it, but you can add it to a topic using Oxygen and manage it in the Components browser.
  • You can select a PDF file with the Image selector in Oxygen and add it to a topic.
  • You see only the first page of the PDF image in the topic.
  • In the Components browser, you can select the PDF binary component, and open it in the PDF Viewer to see all pages.
  • You can view component details for a PDF to see a thumbnail of only the first page.
  • You can publish a document that contains a PDF image.

Work with markdown files

When you import a markdown text file into Inspire, it's stored as a Binary file, which normally can't be edited in Oxygen. However, Inspire lets you work with markdown files in the following ways:

  • Edit them in Oxygen
  • View contents and file properties
  • Manage them in the Components browser

You can't review a markdown file.

  • You can include this type of file in a review, but it is included as read-only to give context.
  • Reviewers can't add comments or make changes to a markdown file.

Insert references to a ditabase file

Inspire now supports content and cross references to ditabase topics.

When working with ditabase files, you can do the following:

  • Import a ditabase file and Inspire recognizes it.
  • Create a reference to a ditabase topic in Oxygen and the link resolves without errors.
  • When you click Save and Submit, Inspire creates a valid reference.
  • See Details about the component and on the References tab.
  • See Details about the component and on the Where used tab.
  • Manage relationships for the topic and update the ditabase reference.
  • Publish the topic without errors related to the ditabase reference.
