Enhancements to performance

Leverage the benefits of Microsoft Web Framework
Inspire now runs on the latest Microsoft Web Framework which is the fastest to date for applications running in the cloud.

Enhancements to component management

See more user information on the History tab
You can see a chronological record of the significant events that impact a component.
You can use this history to find out:
  • When a component was created
  • What kind of changes were made
  • Who made the changes

The following columns have been updated on the History tab:

User
If the component's content wasn't changed, look in this column to see the name of the user who updated the component in some other way, such as moving, translating, or publishing.
  • If any changes, other than content changes, were made to a component before the release of Inspire version 2022.2.4.0, then this column won't have any information.
  • This column displays by default.
Last Updated By
Tells you the account name of the Inspire user who last modified the content of the component.
This column displays by default.

For more details, read: View a component's history.

Grant non-admins access to the event log
An event log is a file that contains information about how Inspire is being used and how it's operating.
Accessing this data can help you manage security, performance, and troubleshoot issues.
  • The Event log option is no longer listed in the Administration menu.
  • It now has its own top menu option called Event log.
  • It's listed after Notifications and before Publishing.
You can grant non-admin users access to the Event log module for troubleshooting.
  • By default, users who have the role of System Administrator or Application Administrator have access to the new Event log menu.
  • You can review and manage the logs using the Event log menu.
  • Admins can manage access to the Event logs module from the Security menu by selecting Module access management.

Rebuild Relationships for a topic that references itself
You can use an automated tool to repair multiple invalid relationships that occur when references to other components or elements are broken.
Previously, if you edited the topic to add a cross-reference (xref) to itself, and then used the Rebuild All Relationships tool, the process did not complete.
  • An email was never sent.
  • Only the first circular relationship was built.
  • The circular reference looped until the process ran out of memory.
Now Rebuild All Relationships completes on topics with circular references.

For more details, read: Rebuild all relationships.

See a new error message when deleting a component used in a Publishing Profile
If you have a component that you publish repeatedly and always want to use the same settings, you can create a publishing profile.
In a profile you specify:
  • A component
  • An export configuration
  • Filters
  • XML validation options
Previously, if you went to Components and tried to delete one that is used in a publishing profile, you saw an error that mentions the name of the publishing profile instead of the name of the component that you are trying to delete.
Now if you delete a component used in a Publishing Profile:
  • You see an error message telling you that you can't delete the component because it's used in a publishing profile.
  • The message displays the component name instead of the name of the publishing profile that includes the component.

For more details, read Send a component to the Deleted items folder.

Enhancements to project management

See a snapshot after renaming a component from a project
As you work with a component in Inspire, changes between versions are stored in a file called a snapshot.
  • Previously, if you opened a project and renamed a component, a snapshot was not created.
  • Now a snapshot is created when you rename a component from a project.

Enhancements to administration

Manage optional features
Inspire provides some features that you can decide whether to use or not.
These features are not enabled by default.
Now you can manage these features from the Features management tab:
  • Require electronic signatures to approve a component.
  • Use a custom schema
  • Allow profiling attribute filters when sending content to translation
  • Allow files to remain unlocked when sent to translation
For more details, read: Manage optional features.

Manage system and customized frameworks
As an Administrator, you can configure which a set of rules, called frameworks, that Oxygen uses when validating content in the Oxygen editor.
By default, Inspire provides the following frameworks for Oxygen validation:
  • DITA 1.3
  • DOCBOOK
Although these frameworks were previously provided, you wouldn't see them listed on the Component framework management tab.
Now the default frameworks are listed and you can download them to use as the basis of a custom framework.
By identifying a framework as Active or not, you can now choose to:
  • Use only the default System frameworks that Inspire provides.
  • Use only a custom framework based on the default System frameworks.
  • Use both the System framework and a customized one for variations.
    • Customized frameworks take priority.
After you make any of the following changes, you must use the new Restart Oxygen button:
  • Create a new framework
  • Update an existing framework's ZIP file
  • Select or clear the Active option for any framework
Restarting Oxygen takes about 5 minutes and impacts all Inspire users in your organization.
For more details, read: Manage XML validation frameworks in Oxygen.

Use the new tooltip when creating an attribute name
As an administrator, you can add attributes to provide more information about XML elements and configure component relationships in the system.
On the Create new attribute screen, if you entered a unique Name using more than 100 characters, you saw an error telling you: "An error occurred while updating the entries. See the inner exception for details. String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated."
Now if you enter a Name using more than 100 characters:
  • The Name box is outlined in red.
  • You can hover your cursor over the Name field to see the following tool tip: "The maximum length for this field is 100."

For more details, read: Create an attribute.
