Relink a branched component from the List view

After you make a branched copy of a component, Inspire maintains the relationship between the original component and the new copy. If you want the branched source to use the original version of a referenced component, you can unlink the branched copy.

After you make a branched copy of a component, Inspire maintains the relationship between the original component and the new copy.

  • In the diagram above, this is shown by the yellow dotted line between the original, Map V1, and the branched copy, Map V1.5.

If you want the branched source to use the original version of a referenced component, you can unlink the branched copy.

  • The existing relationship between the source branched component (Map V1.5) and its reference to the branched component you are unlinking (the red Chapter 3) is deleted.
  • Inspire creates a new component relationship between the source branched component (Map V1.5) and the original component reference (the blue Chapter 3). (In the diagram, this is shown by the green arrow with the yellow dots.)
  • The branched source component (Map V1.5) now references the original component (the blue Chapter 3).
  • The unlinked branched component (the red Chapter 3) remains and is no longer referenced by any other source component.

These steps explain how to unlink a branched copy in the List view. You can also Relink a branched component in the Hierarchy view.

Before you begin

  • You cannot unlink a reference to a map component

To relink a branched component in the List view:

  1. Click Components.
  2. In the Folders pane, navigate to the folder where you've saved the branched component.
  3. In the Components pane, locate the branched component you want to open.
    • A black icon indicates this is the source component for a branch
    • A green icon indicates this was branched because a source component referenced it
    • An orange icon indicates this is both the source of one branch and included in another branch because a different source component referenced it
  4. Right-click the component, select Advanced, and then select Branch Management.

    Results:

    • The Branch Management screen opens.
    • If this is the first time you have opened this component in the tool, you won't see any references listed.
  5. On the Branch Management screen, select List View.

  6. If you don't see any references listed:

    1. In Select referenced components, select one of the following options:
      • All referenced components
      • Referenced components except xref/conref
      • Referenced components except xref/conref/images
    2. Select the Show referenced components checkbox.
  7. On the Branch Management screen, select a branched component.
  8. At the start of the component's row, click the expand arrow.

    Results:

    • You can see what other branches the selected component has a relationship with.
  9. At the end of the branch's row, select the Options menu and then select Relink to Original.

This option is not available for a map component.

    Results:

    • You see an in-app notification that the process for rebuilding relationships has started.
