Open multiple components for editing

After you create or import XML components, you can open them to edit the content. You can open one component at a time, or you can open multiple components. When you open multiple components, Inspire lets you edit or view each one it its own tab.

Tips and tricks

A content owner or administrator can set permissions to deny access components or folders. If your permissions to content has been blocked and you are not an administrator, you cannot use the Edit or View options in the Selected Components pane.

To open multiple components for editing:

  1. Click Components_TopMenuOpt Components.
  2. In the Folders pane, navigate to the folder where you've saved the component.
  3. In the Components pane, select the unlocked components you want to open.

The component should not have a lock ( , ) before the name.

  4. On the Selected Components panel, click Open.

    Results:
    • Each component opens in a separate tab.

    • Any components that are locked or are binary files, you can see them in a read-only viewer.

    • Any XML component opens in Oxygen.

When you open a map or bookmap in Oxygen, you may see all of the referenced content expandable and editable.
    • This happens when an administrator has configured Oxygen to open all components with the referenced content expandable and editable.
    • You do not have the option to open a component without the referenced content ready to expand and edit.

  6. To save your changes, do one of the following:
    • Save. Keep a copy your changes locally and keep the editor open.
    • Save and Submit. Upload your changes to the Inspire database and close the Oxygen editor.

You may be prompted to enter a check-in comment.

If an administrator turns on an optional feature, you are prompted to enter a comment.

The comment is optional and can be left blank.

      • If no comment is entered and the user selects Save or Cancel, only the changes to the component are saved and the Oxygen editor closes.
      • If a comment is entered and the user selects Save, both the changes to the component and the comment are saved. The comment can be seen in a Comments column in the following places: Components browser (hidden by default), Component's History record, Changesets tab.

If you can Edit References In Place, and you make changes only to an expanded reference, then your comment will appear only in that edited component's History record.
