Opening components
After you create or import an XML component, such as a DITA topic or map, you can open them to create, review, and edit structured content in a visual editor that's similar to common word processors.
When you select one or more XML components and choose Edit..., Inspire opens an Oxygen editor for developing content with a variety of features, including:
- A toolbar at the top of the screen with actions that are specific to the type of document you are editing
- An editing pane in the center where you add and edit the content
- A left side panel to help you manage root DITA maps, taxonomies, folders, and the XML structure of the document.
- A right side panel to help you manage components, reviews and comments, attributes, validation, and find and replace.
- A breadcrumb at the bottom of the screen that shows the hierarchical XML structure of the current document, from the document root to the current element.
Tips and tricks
- You can't open a binary component to edit it. Binary files include:

Follow the steps in Use Edit Structure to open large files.
