Move a folder into another folder

You can move folders in the Components browser to organize content to meet the needs of your organization. You can only move one folder and all of it's sub-folders and contents at a time. You can move a folder using drag and drop or the Options menu.

Tips and tricks

In the Components browser you can select a folder and use the Options menu to select Permissions... and see the folder's permission settings.

  • If the folder you're moving has the Inherit permissions from Parent Folder option selected, the folder's permissions are reset to match the permissions of the new parent folder.
  • If the folder you're moving does not have the Inherit permissions from Parent Folder option selected, the folder's permissions aren't modified.
  • If you want to hide the new folder from users who are not administrators, you can set a permission level of None on the folder.
  • To change folder permissions, follow the steps in Set folder permissions.
  • For more information on how folder permissions work, read Work with folder permissions.

Move a folder using drag and drop

  1. Click Components.
  2. In the Folders pane, select the folder you want to move.
  3. Drag the selected folder to a new location in the folder hierarchy.

If you see a red circle with an "x" before the name of the folder:

    • You can't copy the folder to that location. Check your permissions for that folder.
    • If you drag a folder to a place you aren't allowed to, the folder isn't moved.
    • Drag the folder to a location where you see a green circle.
