Set permissions

Users with permission can grant users or roles permission to read, create, update, delete, or rename components. Users with permission can also grant users or roles permission to set permissions for components contained in the selected folder.

Set permissions on an individual folder

  1. Click Components.
  2. On the Components tab, in the Folders pane, select the folder you want to set permissions on, right-click and then select Set Permissions.
  3. On the Set Permissions screen, to manage permissions on a subfolder, do one of the following:
    • To make changes to folder permissions, clear the Inherit Permissions from Parent Folder option.
    • To quickly set the same permissions as the parent folder, select the Inherit Permissions from Parent Folder option.
  4. On the Set Permissions dialog, in Assigned Users/Roles, click Add.
  5. On the Select Users/Roles dialog, select the users or roles, and then click Select.
    Note: On the Select Users dialog, if the list is large or you only want to see a certain type of user, you can narrow the list in the following ways:
    • To see only names that contain a word or specific letters, in Filter, enter text. For example you can find names that contain "admin", or "review". You can't search for text in any other column except Name.
    • To see all users but sorted by Name, Security Type, or User Type, click the column heading and then click the grey arrow. To sort by Name or User Type you can also use the Sort By dropdown box.
    • By default, names with a User Type of Support are not included in the list. To see these users, select the Include support users option.
  6. On the Set Permissions dialog, in Assigned Users/Roles, select a user, and then in Permissions select the options to assign one or more permissions.
    Note: The Read permission is selected by default and cannot be removed.
  7. Verify the permission settings for each user and role and then click Save.

Set permissions on an individual component

  1. Click Components.
  2. On the Components tab, in the Folders pane, navigate to the folder that contains the component you want to set permissions on.
  3. In the Components pane, select the file you want to set permissions on, right-click, select Advanced, and then select Permissions.
  4. On the Set Permissions screen, to manage permissions on a component, do one of the following:
    • To make changes to permissions on a component, clear the Inherit Permissions from Parent Folder option.
    • To quickly set the same permissions as the parent folder, select the Inherit Permissions from Parent Folder option.
  5. On the Set Permissions dialog, in Assigned Users/Roles, click Add.
  6. On the Select Users/Roles dialog, select the users or roles, and then click Select.
    Note: On the Select Users dialog, if the list is large or you only want to see a certain type of user, you can narrow the list in the following ways:

Set permissions on multiple components

  1. Click Components.
  2. On the Components tab, in the Folders pane, navigate to the folder that contains the components you want to set permissions on.
  3. In the Components pane, select the files you want to set permissions on.
  4. In the Selected Components pane, click the Set Permissions icon .
  5. On the Set Permissions screen, to manage permissions for components, do one of the following:
    • To make changes to permissions, clear the Inherit Permissions from Parent Folder option.
    • To quickly set the same permissions as the parent folder, select the Inherit Permissions from Parent Folder option.
  6. On the Set Permissions screen, in Assigned Users/Roles, click Add.
  7. On the Select Users/Roles screen, select the users or roles, and then click Select.
