Unlock components with system locks

Inspire locks a component with a system lock when it is being managed by an Inspire process such as reviews and translations. As a best practice, keeping the components locked prevents changes from being made before the review or translation is complete. If for business reasons you need to allow a user to edit a component with a system lock, you can unlock it.

Use caution when unlocking a component.

  • You see a warning that any changes made while the component was locked will be lost.
  • The following locks are used in Inspire:
    • The blue open lock is used when a component isn't being edited by another user, in use by Inspire, or approved.
    • The blue closed lock is used when a component is being edited by another user.
    • The user avatar icon is used when you're editing a component or you have closed the component but have unsaved changes.
    • The red system lock is used when a component is in review or sent to translation and an administrator has configured components to be locked.
    • The green system lock is used when a component has been approved and an administrator has configured components to be locked upon approval.

As an administrator, you can also enable features to control locked components:

Unlock a component from the Components browser

  1. Click Components.
  2. In the Folders pane, navigate to the folder that contains the file you want to unlock.
  3. To unlock one component:
    1. Select the component with a system lock.
    2. Right-click the component, select Actions, and then select Unlock.
    3. On the Unlock warning screen, click Yes.
      Results: The component you selected is now unlocked. You'll see the unlocked icon next to the name of the component in the browser.
  4. To unlock multiple components at once:
    1. In the Components pane, select the component you want to unlock.
    2. Look in the Content details pane to see a preview and verify you've selected the correct component. If the pane isn't open, click the down arrow in the pane's title bar.
    3. Repeat steps a and b to select all the components you want to lock.
    4. In the Selected Components pane, click the Unlock icon .
    5. On the Unlock warning screen, click Yes.
      Results: The components you selected are now unlocked. You'll see the unlocked icon next to the name of the component in the browser.

Unlock a component from a project

  1. Click Projects.
  2. Select the project and double-click it.
  3. In the Content pane, navigate to the folder containing the component you want to unlock.
  4. To unlock one component:
    1. Select the component.
    2. Right-click the component, select Actions, and then select Unlock.
    3. On the Unlock warning screen, click Yes.
      Results: The component you selected is now unlocked. You'll see the unlocked icon next to the name of the component.
  5. To unlock multiple components at once:
    1. In the Content pane, select the component you want to unlock.
    2. Look in the Content details pane to see a preview and verify you've selected the correct component. If the pane isn't open, click the down arrow in the pane's title bar.
    3. Repeat steps a and b to select all the components you want to unlock.
    4. In the Selected Components pane, click the Unlock icon .
