Modify the XML structure
You can edit the structure of an XML document according to the restrictions on its elements and their attributes as defined with an XML schema. In the Oxygen-based editor, you can use the XML frameworks for the most popular XML document types (DITA, DocBook, XHTML) with a full set of features. For more information on Oxygen's XML support of these document types, read the Oxygen documentation on Editing XML Documents .
Show or hide tags in Oxygen When you're working in the Oxygen-based editor, you can control the amount of markup that displays. By default, no tag names are shown, but you can choose from several options to show more information depending on how much detail you want to see.Insert elements in the editor You can insert elements into the document you're editing using the toolbar and the right-click menus in the editing and Outline panes.Change element types in the editor You can quickly change an element to another one that's allowed. This lets you change the element type without having to insert a new one, copy and paste content, and then delete the old element.Define elements in the Attributes pane You can edit Inspire components in an XML editor that uses Oxygen functionality. When you're working on a document in the Oxygen-based editor, you can provide extra information about an element in the Attributes pane. For example, if you insert an image element, you can add an attribute to specify that the alignment of the image on the page should be in the center. After you add an attribute, you can go back and change the value specified in the attribute or delete the attribute. Deleting an attribute doesn't delete the element.Edit content as XML in the editor If you want to edit XML code inline with the content in your document, you can use an option to see and edit your content in this way.Assign an ID to source content in Oxygen You can edit Inspire components in an XML editor that uses Oxygen functionality. If you want to reuse content in other components, you can use the Oxygen-based editor to ensure the source content has an ID attribute that you can reference. Then you can insert content from this source into other components. For ways on referencing content, see Reuse content with references in Oxygen .
