Export a snapshot

Snapshots are copies of a component you have saved at different intervals so you can recover information from different versions. For example, you may want a snapshot of a topic when you create, move, and update it. You can export a snapshot of a component to maintain a copy outside of Inspire if necessary.

Before you begin
Use the Export and Restore actions with caution!
  • If you import an exported snapshot, the imported component becomes the active snapshot.
  • Before you restore a previous snapshot, make sure the restored version is appropriate for all documents that reference the component.
  • Any content that's referenced but not included in the snapshot won't be restored.
To find out where a component is used, follow the steps in View component references.

Exported name formats

  • If you export the snapshot only and no references, the component isn't packaged in a ZIP file. Exporting a single component without references uses the following naming format:

    {ComponentFileName}.xml

    • For example, Cloud_Computing_fd22225c-846f-4ed1-be0c-20a10e4e7f67.xml.
  • If you export the snapshot and include references, the components are packaged in a ZIP file. Exporting a snapshot with references uses the following naming format:

    Export-{ComponentName}-DateTime.zip

    • For example, Export-Cloud_Computing-2024-12-27-051608.zip.

To export a snapshot:

  1. Click Components_TopMenuOpt Components.
  2. In the Folders pane, locate the map component that you want to see past versions of.
  3. In the Components pane, right-click the component and then select Details ...
You can access the same menu by clicking Action_Menu the Options menu.

  7. Click Export.
You see a message that the export has begun. If you see a warning notification it means that the component was locked during export or you did not have permission to export the components.
  8. To download the exported content, do any of the following:
    • Go to your email Inbox and open a message from noreply@vasont.com with a subject line of Export completed successfully. Click the link to download your exported content.
    • In the top menu, click Notifications Notification TopMenu . From the list of notifications, with a subject line of Export completed successfully. Click the link to download your exported content.
  9. On the Component Details dialog, to close the dialog, click Cancel.

When you complete a task that triggers a notification, such as exporting content, the Slack and email message bodies contain:

    • The notification with ten or less Issues, Errors, and Warnings.
    • A link at the bottom of the message [See Full Version].
    • You can click the [See Full Version] link to expand a section under the link with the full details.
