Run a content search for components

You can find words or phrases in the Components browser using a content search. You do this by entering text in the Search box. A content search is a full-text search of your XML documents using indexed words automatically built by Inspire. This option is faster than an advanced search because Inspire keeps a list of indexed words for each XML document when content is created and updated.

When running a basic search, Inspire looks for your criteria in the following columns in the Components browser:

  • ID
  • Name
  • Type
  • File Name
  • Updated Date (Date only, not the time)
  • Locked Date (Date only, not the time)
  • Path

To customize which columns you see in the Components browser, follow the steps in See more details in the component grid.

When you run a content search, there are some limitations.
  • When searching, Inspire ignores the following columns in the Components browser:
    • State
    • Lock
    • Branch
    • Follow
    • Language
    • Updated By
    • Locked By
    • Word Count
    • Character Count
    • Character Count (No spaces)
    • Component size (bytes)

If you want to do a more comprehensive search using more parameters, follow the steps in: Use advanced search tools.

  • You can't use content search to find a single letter or number.
  • Some words aren't included in a search even if you type them in. For example, searching for "is the time" gives you the same results as "time" because the stop words are not included in the search. You can leave out the following list of stop words when you run a content search:

If you want to search for a single number or run a more complex search, Use advanced search tools.
