View projects that reference a component

You can view all projects that reference the selected component from the Projects tab. This is helpful if you want to delete a component but need to see if it's included in any other projects first. You can also save the list of projects as a CSV file.

Tips and tricks

You can see more details about project assignments and workflows that a component is used in by looking in the panes under the grid listing the projects. In the title bar, to show a pane, use the up arrow, and to hide a pane use the down arrow.

  • Assignments—After you select a project from the list, you can see the assignments that the component is included in.
    • The Assignments pane tells you the following information:
      • Due Date
      • Activity
      • Assigned To
      • State
      • Workflow Name
      • Description (hidden by default)
      • Created Date (hidden by default)
  • Workflow—After you select a project from the list, you can see the step in the workflow that the component is currently included in.
    • The Workflow pane tells you the following information:
      • Due Date
      • Name
      • State
      • Owner
      • Description (hidden by default)
      • Created Date (hidden by default)

To view projects that reference a component:

  1. Click Components_TopMenuOpt Components.
  2. In the Folders pane, navigate to the folder where you've saved the component.
  3. In the Components pane, select the component you want to open.
    Note: You can verify you have the correct component by looking in the Content details pane at the preview. 

    If the pane isn't open, click the down arrow in the pane's title bar.

    If you think the preview isn't showing the latest version, click Refresh .

  4. Right-click a component, and then click Details...
    Note: You can also access this option from the component's Options menu.
  5. On the Components Details dialog, click the Projects tab.
  6. Select the project you want to see assignments for.
  7. Look in the Assignments pane to see if this component was included, and what State the assignment is in.
    • You can show and hide this pane. In the pane's Assignments title bar, use the Expand pane and Collapse pane arrows.
    • You can sort by any column. Right-click the column and choose ascending or descending order.
    • You can customize what information is shown by showing or hiding columns. Right-click any column, select Column, and choose one or more of the following:
      • Due Date
      • Activity
      • Assigned To
      • State
      • Workflow Name
      • Description
      • Created Date
  8. Optionally, do any of the following: to open a project, click a project Title.
    • To save the list of projects that reference a component to a CSV file, click Save as CSV ExportCSV.
    • To open a reference in the Oxygen-based editor, select the reference's Options menu, and then click Edit.
    • To open a reference in a read-only viewer, select the reference's Options menu, and then click View.
    • To locate the folder where the component is saved in the Components browser, select the reference's Options menu, and then click Go to.
  9. If you made changes, on the Component Details dialog, click Save.
  10. To close the Component Details dialog, click Cancel.
