A snapshot is a copy of a file at a specific moment in time. By default, snapshots include a component and all referenced content. If you want to restore only the component and not all referenced files, follow the instructions in Restore a component from a snapshot.

Use the
Export and
Restore actions with caution!
- If you import an exported snapshot, the imported component becomes the active snapshot.
- Before you restore a previous snapshot, make sure the restored version is appropriate for all documents that reference the component.
- Any content that's referenced but not included in the snapshot won't be restored.
To find out where a component is used, follow the steps in
View component references.

On Demand snapshots vs. Action-oriented Inspire snapshots
- When viewing the component history, in the list of snapshots taken for a component, look in the Action column.
- The snapshots you take are listed as On Demand and include all referenced files.
- If Inspire creates a snapshot, the Action identifies the change Inspire recognized, such as Updated or Moved.

After you restore a component, Inspire runs a background process is called
Rebuild all relationships. If this process isn't run, you see the following issues:
- When you right-click a component, select Advanced, and then select Relationships..., the list of referenced components isn't correct.
- When you right-click a component and select Export, the components that Inspire exports aren't correct.
If you restore a component and are still seeing issues, you can manually Rebuild all relationships.
