Component states

You can view and change component states to distinguish which components are in draft state, are invalid, or are ready to publish.

A component can have the following states:

Approved

This state lets other users know that the component is ready to be published or translated, and that it shouldn't be changed. However, this state doesn't stop a user from editing the file. If you want to mark a component as final and stop other users from editing it, you can also lock the component.

  • You can manually set a component to approved state if you have update permissions for the component and the component is unlocked.
  • You can select multiple components and approve them from the Selected Component pane.

eSignature attached

When you approve a component, if an electronic signature is required, then you see the electronic signature icon.

Draft

A component is automatically set to draft state when you:
  • Create a component
  • Import a component
  • Approve the component and then a Save and Submit occurs.
  • Correct a component in the Invalid state (a Save and Submit will occur)
You can return an Approved component to the Draft state by right-clicking it, selecting Actions, and then selecting Unapprove.

Invalid

A component is set to this state if it contains invalid XML, such as incomplete references, missing attribute values, or bad markup.
  • When you correct an invalid component it's returned to draft state.
  • You must correct an invalid component before you can approve it.
