Unlock components from the components browser

Users with permissions can unlock multiple components from the Components browser.

Tips and tricks

  • To use these steps, you must have permission to update the components that you want to unlock.

As a best practice, you should Save and Submit your work before you log out of Inspire.

  • The following users and roles can now unlock any lock, including system locks:
    • Administrator
    • Users with permission to the can_unlock_system module property
  • The following locks are used in Inspire:
    • The blue open lock is used when a component isn't being edited by another user, in use by Inspire, or approved.
    • The blue closed lock is used when a component is being edited by another user.
    • The user avatar icon is used when you're editing a component or you have closed the component but have unsaved changes.
    • The red system lock is used when a component is in review or sent to translation and an administrator has configured components to be locked.
    • The green system lock is used when a component has been approved and an administrator has configured components to be locked upon approval.
  • The admin or user with permissions sees a warning that any changes made while the component was locked will be lost.

To unlock components from the components browser:

  1. Click the Components menu to open the Components tab.
  2. To unlock one component:
    1. To select the component, click it.

      The component should have a lock ( , ) before the name.

    2. Right-click, select Actions, and then select Unlock.
    3. If you made changes and didn't click Save and Submit, do one of the following:

      • To unlock the components and lose all changes made while the components were locked, click Yes to the warning.

        Results:

        • The component(s) you selected are now unlocked.
        • Any changes made while the component was locked are lost.
      • To cancel the Unlock action so you or the user who has it locked can open the component and save the changes, click No.
    4. If you didn't made changes, on the confirmation screen, click Yes.

      Results:

      • The components are cleared from the Selected Components panel.
      • The component(s) you selected are now unlocked.
      • You see the Draft icon before the name of the component.
  3. To unlock multiple components:
    1. Select the checkbox for each of the components you want to unlock.

      The component should have a lock ( , ) before the name.

    2. In the Selected Components pane, select Unlock Unlock .

    3. If you made changes and didn't click Save and Submit, do one of the following:

      • To unlock the components and lose all changes made while the components were locked, click Yes to the warning.

        Results:

        • The components are cleared from the Selected Components panel.
        • The component(s) you selected are now unlocked.
        • Any changes made while the component was locked are lost.
      • To cancel the Unlock action so you or the user who has it locked can open the component and save the changes, click No
    4. If you didn't made changes, on the confirmation screen, click Yes.

      Results:

      • The components are cleared from the Selected Components panel.
      • The component(s) you selected are now unlocked.
      • You see the Draft icon before the name of the component.
  4. The component(s) you selected can be edited by other users and display an unlocked icon .
    If any selected components have a system lock or you do not have permission to update the component, a message appears with a list of components that cannot be unlocked.

    Inspire may remember the components you choose on the Selected Components panel. After you select Unlock from the toolbar, those components remain listed on the Selected Components panel. If you want to choose different components to act on or clear the components listed, go to the Selected Components toolbar and click the Clear all icon .
