Create a custom schema

By default, Inspire provides built-in schemas and these are used if no custom schemas are defined. As an administrator, you can define a custom schema standard for Inspire to use when an author chooses the Validate XML, Export, or Publish options in the Components browser.

Before you can create a new schema, you must meet the following pre-requisites:
  • The feature has been enabled in one of the following ways:
    • An administrator completes the steps in Allow the use of a custom schema.
    • A GlobalLink Vasont support member enables the use of a custom schema for you. Send email to: GlobalLinkCCMS-Support@TransPerfect.com.
  • Your schema framework must already exist and be saved as a ZIP file.
  • By default, the Active option is selected. When Inspire looks for schemas to use, only those marked as Active are identified.

The component schemas you load into Inspire are used only for Inspire XML validation options in the Components browser.

You must have administrator permissions in Inspire to complete this task.

To create a custom schema:

  1. From the Administration_TopMenuOpt Administration menu, select Advanced settings, and then select Component schema management.
  2. On the Component schema management tab, click + Create.
  3. On the Create Component Schema dialog, in Name, enter a title for your custom schema in 50 characters or less. This field is required.
  4. Optionally, in Description, you can enter details about the customization or when the schema should be used in 1000 characters or less.
  5. In Schema Standard, select the type of structure (DITA, DocBook, Inspire) and the version. This field is required.
Note: You can't edit the list of options in Schema Standard. These are the schema standards that Inspire currently supports.
  6. To select a Schema (zip):
    1. Click Browse for files...
    2. On the Open dialog, find the schema framework saved as a ZIP file, and click Open.
  7. By default, the Active option is selected. When Inspire looks for schemas to use, only those marked as Active are identified. If you don't want Inspire to identify this schema as available, clear the option.
The Active checkbox is useful if you want to test schemas. For example, you can upload two schemas and switch back and forth between them.
  8. On the Create Component Schema dialog, click Create.
You see the Component schema management tab and the details about your new schema.
