Add an attachment to a component

You can select another component in Inspire as an attachment. This is useful if you want to attach a file for reference. For example, if you have a DITA map component and you want to attach a PDF file for reference.

To add an attachment to a component:

  1. Click Components_TopMenuOpt Components.
  2. In the Folders pane, navigate to the folder where you've saved the component.
  3. In the Components pane, select the component you want to add a component as an attachment.
    Note: You can verify you have the correct component by looking in the Content details pane at the preview.

    If the pane isn't open, click the down arrow in the pane's title bar.

    If you think the preview isn't showing the latest version, click Refresh .

  4. Right-click a component, and then click Details...
    You can also access this option from the component's Options menu.
  5. On the Component Details dialog, select the Attachments tab.

  6. If the list of attachments is long, to find an attachment:
    • Sort the list by selecting a column title.
      • You see an up or down arrow to indicate if the list is sorted in ascending or descending order.
    • See more details by adding other columns to the list.
      • Right-click a column heading, select the menu arrow, then select Columns.
      • Component Id (hidden by default)
      • Name
      • File Name
      • Path (hidden by default)
  7. To add a component as an attachment:

    1. Click Add Components...
    2. On the Select Components screen, use the Folders and Component panes to find the component you want to add to the Attachments list.
    3. Click the component's checkbox.
    4. Click Select.
    Results: You see the component listed in the top pane.

    If the component is attached to other files, select it in the top pane to see the list in the bottom References pane.

  8. To remove an attachment:
    1. In the component's row, click Remove.
  9. Optionally, you can open the Components browser to see where the attached file is stored.
    1. Select the Options menu and select GoTo.
    2. The Details screen and the Attachments tab closes.
    3. The Components browser opens.
    4. The folder where the attachment is stored opens.
    5. The attachment file is highlighted.
  10. Optionally, you can open the Components browser to see where the file to which the attachment is also attached.
    1. In the top pane, select the attachment you want to see references for.
    2. Go to the bottom References pane.
    3. Select the Options menu and select GoTo.
    4. The Details screen and the Attachments tab closes.
    5. The Components browser opens.
    6. The folder opens where the file to which the selected attachment is also attached.
    7. The file that references the attachment is highlighted.
  11. To save the component attachment and close the Component Details screen, click Save.

    • A black paper clip if the component has an attachment
    • A green paper clip if the component is an attachment
